Gabriel has practised law for nearly 50 years and has served as counsel to several prominent clients, including First Bank of Nigeria PLC, African International Bank, UNIC Insurance, UAC, Plateau State Government, Enugu State Government, and many others.
Beyond his active legal practice, Gabriel has held notable positions. He served as a Member of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on T.C.P.C., Enugu State, in 1992, as well as a Member of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). He was also a Member of the NBA Judiciary Committee in 1999 and Alternate Chairman of the 2005 Conference Planning Committee of the NBA. Additionally, he served as a Member of the Plateau State Local Government Election Appeal Tribunal in 1996 and as Chairman of the Plateau State Local Government Election Tribunal in 1997, among other roles.
In September 1997, he was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), becoming the first person from the Nsukka zone to achieve such a distinction. Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya is a seasoned administrator, law professor, and the current Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
