Prof. Osita Ogbu appointed to the Board of NDIC

President Muhamadu Buhari has appointed Professor Osita Ogbu as a member representing the southeast on the board of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC). This was made known in a statement signed by Yinusa Abdullah, who is the media adviser to Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed.

Abdulhakem Abdullateed (South West and Chairman), Umar Jibrin (North Central), Mohammed Haruna (North East), Yasmin Dalhatu (North West), and Simon Ogie (South-South) were also appointed to the board.

The minister says that the current appointment is meant to bring in the new ideas needed to reorient the company for better performance. She further stated that the nominations were needed to rebuild the NDIC's governing board to prevent a void, make sure the corporation ran smoothly, and boost the confidence of stakeholders and clients in the financial and banking sectors of the national economy. 

Profile of Osita Ogbu (OON)

Professor Osita Ogbu is a Professor of Developmental Economics at the University of Nigeria. He is currently the Director of the Institute of Developmental Studies at the Enugu Campus of the University. He has over three decades of experience in public policy strategy, research, teaching, and leadership.

Professor Ogbu has a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, as well as a Master's and a PhD in Economics from Howard University in Washington, DC.

He has had an extensive career that spans several industries, including serving as a sales manager at Lever Brothers between 1980 and 1983. He was also a consultant and research economist in the Africa Region of the World Bank in Washington, D.C., between 1987 and 1991. He worked for the International Development Research Centre of Canada in Ottawa and at the regional office in Nairobi as a senior program specialist from 1991 to 2001.

He was also the head of the National Planning Commission and President Olusegun Obasanjo's economic adviser from 2005 to 2006, where he supervised three key directorates, namely the National Bureau of Statistics, the Center for Management Development, and the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research. 

Osita Ogbu is from Ovoko, in the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, and married to Dr. (Mrs.) Ogugua Osi-Ogbu, a consultant physician and geriatrician at the National Hospital Abuja.
