10th National Assembly: Meet the Quartet representing Nsukka Zone in the National Assembly

The 10th National Assembly has been inaugurated, with Senator Godswil Akpabio emerging as Senate President and Hon. Tajudeen Abass emerging as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In this piece, we will take a look at the profiles of the four representatives of the Nsukka zone at the national assembly. The four that emerged are Senator Okechukwu Ezea, Hon. Chidi Obetta, Hon. Dennis Agbo, and Hon. Stainless Nwodo.

Okechukwu Ezea

Meet Okey Ezea, a Nigerian politician, lawyer, and businessman, born on April 20, 1966. He hails from a modest background, being the second of eight children in his family.

Ezea pursued his education at St. Theresa College, Nsukka (STC), and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in law. He further pursued his legal studies at the University of Lagos, earning a master's degree in law. Currently, he is in the final stages of completing his PhD in Law.

Having worked as a legal practitioner for several years, Ezea later ventured into politics. In 2007, he contested the Enugu gubernatorial election under the Labour Party but was unsuccessful, losing to Sullivan Chime of the People's Democratic Party.

In 2014, Ezea joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ran as a candidate in the Enugu State gubernatorial elections in 2015 under the party's banner. However, he was unable to secure victory, as Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the incumbent, emerged as the winner.

Ezea has actively participated in politics within Enugu State, occupying various notable positions such as Secretary of the Enugu State Law Review Commission and Chairman of the Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue.

Beyond his political engagements, Ezea thrives as a successful businessman. He is the founder and CEO of Ideke Holdings Limited, a company involved in diverse sectors, including oil and gas, real estate, and agriculture.

Furthermore, Ezea demonstrates his philanthropic side by engaging in numerous charitable endeavours within his community. He has generously offered scholarships to numerous students in Enugu State and has also contributed funds to various healthcare initiatives.

Chidi Mark Obetta

Chidi Mark Obetta, born in 1979. Chidi is the CEO of Jerry Marriot Hotels, an esteemed hotel chain with locations in Zaria, Kaduna State, and Nsukka, Enugu.

His educational journey took him through Demonstration School in Zaria and Ahmadu Bello University, also located in Zaria, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees.

Having gained experience in the private sector, Obetta embarked on a professional path that encompassed positions at Guaranty Trust Bank, SkyFrost Nigeria Limited, and First FATE Business Intermediaries.

In the 10th National Assembly, Obetta will represent the constituents of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, succeeding Dr Patrick Oziokoja Asadu, a medical doctor-turned-politician from Ovoko, who served diligently for 16 years.

Originating from Ibagwa-Ani, within the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Obetta holds a deep connection to his roots.

Dennis Agbo

Hon. (Sir) Dennis Nnamdi Agbo is a notable Nigerian figure, excelling in the fields of banking, business, governance reform consulting, and politics. With a birthdate marking him 55 years old, he obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Accountancy and an MBA in Banking and Finance from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Additionally, Sir Agbo holds the distinguished title of Fellow (FCA) from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Throughout his career, Hon. Agbo has achieved eminence as a banker and businessperson, occupying prominent leadership roles within various Nigerian banks. Moreover, he has served as a consultant, specializing in governance and business reform.

In the past, Hon. Agbo represented the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency of Enugu State as a Member of the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019.

During his tenure, he made significant contributions as a member of various committees, including agricultural Institutions and Colleges, Finance, Maritime, Navy, and Debt Management, among others. His exceptional legislative efforts for economic empowerment and agricultural development within his constituency have earned him widespread recognition.

Presently, Hon. Agbo is the MD/CEO at Oriental Integrated Farms Ltd., an agricultural production company, as well as FANKIN Foods Ltd., an agro-processing company.

Hon. Agbo will succeed Engr. Simon Atigwe, who has served in the House since 2019, furthering his commitment to public service.

Stainless Nwodo

Hon. Stainless Nwodo, a graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) with a degree in Political Science, brings a wealth of experience in education, training, and management spanning over 20 years.

Hailing from Idoha in the Igbo Etiti local government area, Hon. Nwodo triumphed over incumbent Dr. Martins Oke of the PDP and Samuel Ekwueme of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerging as the victorious candidate.

At 44 years old, he will diligently serve as the representative of the people from Igbo Etiti/Uzo Uwani Federal Constituency. He succeeds Dr. Martin Oke, who served for eight years but was unable to secure a chance for a third term.

Okey Ezea Emerges as Senator-Elect for Enugu North

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Barr. Okey Ezea of the Labour Party as the Senator-elect of Enugu North Senatorial district. The experienced politician and two-time guber candidate under Labour Party and All Progressive Congress (APC) defeated his closest rivals the incumbent governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon.
